Coal reserve Energy Education

2020-12-14  Coal is the most widespread and most abundant fossil fuels. Since so much coal exists, this means that the Earth has significant coal reserves. These reserves are spread all over the globe and mined in every continent except Antarctica. Although the reserves are spread widely, some countries have much more coal than others.

2013-1-1  Estimates of proven coal reserves for black coal i.e. for anthracite and bituminous coals, and for brown coal i.e. subbituminous coal and lignite, are given in Table 4.3. These figures are taken from the World Energy Council (WEC) Survey of Energy Resources (2010) and from the BP Statistical Review of World Energy (2012).

Coal reserves. World coal reserves in 2019 stood at 1070 billion tonnes and are heavily concentrated in just a few countries: US (23%), Russia (15%), Australia (14%) and China (13%). Most of the reserves are anthracite and bituminous (70%).

2021-3-5  Coal is used in cement manufacturing, food processing, paper manufacturing and alumina refineries. Black coal was first discovered in Newcastle 1791 and coal mining and exports commenced soon after in 1799. These early coal mining activities made a significant contribution to the progress of European settlement in Australia.

FACTORS AFFECTING COAL PRODUCTION AND USE

2007-3-19  reserves are owned by the Federal Government and can be mined only under Federal lease. Much of the remaining Western coal is owned by States or Indian tribes. As more than half of all domestic coal reserves are found in the West, Federal leasing policy is an important factor in determining long-run coal

Coal Production an overview ScienceDirect Topics

Coal production continues to grow globally due to the demand for low cost energy and iron and steel, as well as cement. Coal, based on the current extraction rates, will last about 115 years longer than conventional oil and gas reserves, with an estimated 1.1 trillion tonnes of proven coal reserves worldwide. Ten countries are responsible for 90% of the total global coal production.

Brandt, 2006). Coal is abundant in the United States. Despite significant uncertainties in exist-ing reserve sizes, there is sufficient coal at current rates of production to meet anticipated needs through 2030 and well beyond.More detailed analyses will be required, however, to derive accurate estimates of the impact of enhanced produc-tion on reserve life.
